In converting an 18th-century Cumbrian farm known as Whitbarrow Hall in 1986, the original owners succeeded in retaining the unique local character. The cobbled, flagged `village' street, overlooked by the clock tower, runs between the converted stone farm buildings, with paths leading off through pretty archways to flower-decked courtyards. The attractive cottages are a mix of one bedroom and two bedroom, and the peaceful rural setting and beautiful views ensure that the historic charm remains for today's visitors to enjoy. Whitbarrow village is an ideal spot in which to completely relax, with plenty of quiet little courtyards and hideaways, or with Ullswater just 5 miles away, it makes the ideal base from which to explore the area. Some of the many facilities on site include an indoor heated swimming pool, fully equipped leisure club, tennis court, 18-hole crazy golf, children's play area and 9-hole putting green. From the most energetic hiker, climber, cyclist, golfer or watersports enthusiast to those who prefer to meander gently by car or boat, visitors will find that each lake and tarn has its own individual character.
