Famous for its pier, beach huts and working lighthouse, Southwold, a charming North Suffolk seaside town on the Suffolk Heritage Coast, has a delightful high street with a range of traditional shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants. Other highlights include Adnams Brewery, the Southwold summer theatre and the harbour. A trip across the river Blyth by foot ferry to explore the picturesque village of Walberswick, returning by the footbridge makes for a pleasant day trip. For an alternative day out, Aldeburgh makes for an interesting visit. Although best known for its annual arts festival (the brainchild of Benjamin Britten, which takes place in June and November), many other events are held throughout the year including the Easter Music Festival and the Proms season in August. A little further inland lies Framlingham with its magnificent 12th-century castle as well as the sleepy village next to the castle. Golf course nearby. Pub 500 yards.
