Visitors can enjoy wandering in the ancient streets of King's Lynn (6miles) where medieval lanes and alleyways meander back from the handsome waterfront. There are some fine buildings, including the 15th-century StGeorge's Guildhall (NT) and 17th-century Hampton Court. The town also offers a theatre, sports centre, golf and tennis, as well as good shopping and a Saturday market. Just ten miles away is the Sandringham Estate, the Queen's country home, with its Jacobean-style house and superb gardens and park, open to the public when the Royal Family is away. The surrounding countryside offers good walking or riding, and just 2miles away is the Leziate Sailing Club. The coast of North Norfolk is a long expanse of sand dunes and salt-marshes where a line of nature reserves protect the birds and plants which thrive here. Hunstanton (12miles) is the nearest resort, a charming Victorian town and the only East Anglian seaside town which faces west. A range of impressive red and white striped cliffs backs the splendid sandy beach, where sea fishing can be enjoyed and boat trips run to Seal Island. Wells 15miles. Pub 3miles.
