The village of Chideock (ūmile) has a shop and friendly pubs. Three miles to the east lies the market town of Bridport, with its many shops and good leisure centre. To the west (10miles) is Lyme Regis, a seaside town of distinction and charm with a pretty harbour. Dorchester (18miles), Thomas Hardy territory, has shops, restaurants, museums and cinema. Dorset boasts 18golf courses; fishing and sailing are widely available all along the coast, and there are excellent country walks from the cottage and along the coastal footpath. The region has many fine houses and gardens open to the public.
