Just a mile from a sandy beach, this delightful cottage is set in large, south-facing gardens with its own outdoor heated swimming-pool. Providing comfortable accommodation to a very high standard, it is set in a residential area close to both Bournemouth and Poole (3 miles), with a host of amenities and activities close by. On the cliffs of Poole Bay, at Canford Cliffs, Compton Acres Gardens makes an interesting day out, whilst the town of Poole is characterised by a large harbour dotted with islands and wooded inlets. Trips from the harbour to the National Trust property of Brownsea Island will be of interest to scouts - it was here that Lord Baden-Powell set up his first camp in 1907. The 500 or so acres making up the island are home to red squirrels and offer a wonderful picnic venue with pleasant walks taking in many species of wildlife. The historic quaysides of Poole are lined with fine old buildings which include the Guildhall, the 18th-century Customs House and the Tudor Scaplen's Court. Local history is retold at the Waterfront Museum, and Poole Pottery is open daily exhibiting local craft. At Bournemouth, a stretch of golden beach welcomes visitors and windsurfing, boating and swimming prove popular activities. Here in the mild climate, sub-tropical plants grow and wooded walks can be taken in the sloping valleys that lead down from the cliff tops to the shore. Further beautiful beaches are to be found on the eastern bays of the peninsula known as the Isle of Purbeck, paticularly around Studland and Swanage. Several National Trust attractions are clustered in the area - at Wareham, Corfe Castle stands as a magnificent ruin, which once served as the controlling gateway through the Purbeck Hills. Clouds Hill, an isolated cottage associated with Laurence of Arabia is also found there. Ideal for exploring the New Forest. Golf 1 mile. Pub ūmile.
