 La Fermette
Ceauce, Domfront, Orne,France
Set in secluded 6 acre grounds in the beautiful countryside of Southern Normandy, these two stone built cottages have been tastefully restored with original fireplaces and beamed ceilings. Le Fournil, inviting and cosy, features an ancient bread oven. La Fermette is a large, detached cottage, originally a farmhouse. The extensive lawns and mature trees make this a peaceful haven with a stream running through the garden and swings for children. The grounds are shared with the resident British owners. However, each cottage has its own separate patio area. The living rooms are homely, comfortably furnished with sofas and easy chairs, dressers and good dining tables and chairs. Pretty bedrooms are decorated in a pleasant country style. The well-equipped kitchens with tiled floors are fitted with oak units and ample work surfaces. Only one and a half hour's drive from the nearest channel port, Le Haut Fresnay is well placed to explore Normandy, Brittany and the Loire Valley. In the surrounding area there are picturesque towns like Domfront, on a hilltop, with its château and medieval streets, Le Mont St. Michel and the spa town of Bagnoles-de-l'Orne, where you can try your hand in the casino, or simply enjoy its sporting facilities. Beaches and the resort of Granville, from where a ferry sails to Jersey, are within driving distance. The Norman cuisine, using delicious cream, apples and cider can be sampled at nearby restaurants and fresh produce is best purchased at the local markets.
