In Chamonix itself, there is plenty to do and there are many shops, restaurants and weekly market, ideal for sampling the local gastronomy such as fine cheeses and sausages. The town offers an abundance of adventure activities or the sporty types from hiking, mountain biking, climbing and white water rafting. On lazier days you can enjoy the towns Alpine museum, ride up the mountain on the cable cars or funicular railway or simply enjoy the relaxed pace of life in the town. For day trips you could visit the chic resort of Magève or the Olympic town of Albertville with its sports facilities and ice-rink and within less than an hours drive you could even take a trip through the Mont Blanc tunnel into Italy and the lovely historic town of Aosta.
