 Vipers Quay
Dittisham, Devon.,United Kingdom
A quarter of a mile downstream from Dittisham, on the River Dart - one of the most beautiful in the country - stands Vipers Quay. A comfortable secluded single-storey residence set in approximately 2 acres of woodland and grounds, built above an old boathouse with its own quay and slipway. Marvellous river views, with picture windows overlooking the Dart. Small garden, 300 yards of private river frontage and a huge flat roof for sunbathing. The village of Dittisham has two excellent pubs, a riverside tearoom and an unusually well stocked village shop, and there are various possibilities to hire boats for those wishing to sail or explore the river. A ferry service takes passengers across to Greenway Quay, above which stands Greenway House, birthplace of the Elizabethan seafarer Sir Humphrey Gilbert and former home of novelist Agatha Christie. The National Trust now owns Greenway with its glorious woodland gardens on the banks of the river. During the summer months there is a waterbus every half hour to the historic town of Dartmouth, 3 miles downstream. From Dartmouth it is possible to take river trips up to the ancient town of Totnes. There is golf at the Dartmouth Country Club (5 miles), and the nearest sandy beach is 9 miles away.
