Set over three levels, this detached house affords spectacular views over Mevagissey Harbour (from all rooms except bathrooms), as well as enchanting far-reaching sea and coastal views, and enjoys a perfect backdrop for al fresco dining. A short stroll away lies the pretty harbour, a variety of shops, restaurants and inns, as well as the South West Coastal Path with stunning scenery. The small sandy cove of Portmellon lies close by, whilst Gorran Haven (formerly a crab-fishing village) offers a sand and rock beach, and leads on (1 mile south) to Vault Beach. A succession of further coves are to be found, which include Hemmick Beach (good for swimming) and Porthluney Cove, which presents visitors with the sight of battlemented Caerhays Castle, standing on the site of a medieval manor house. To the north of Mevagissey, the little port of Charlestown can be found, which formerly exported copper, and later china clay, extracted at St Austell. A small museum relates local scenes from history as well as stories of shipwrecks. Popular with families, Par offers traditional seaside amusements and sandy beaches extending outwards to ½ mile at low tide and further along, the craggy headland of Gribbin head juts outwards. Menabilly House - where the novelist Daphne du Maurier spent part of her life - is also to be found here. Inland, the Lost Gardens of Heligan make for a pleasant day out, and the renowned Eden Project is within easy reach.
