This is an ideal holiday base for exploring South Cornwall, with many excellent beaches in the area and wonderful coastal walks. Carlyon Bay (6 miles) has a long sandy beach, with boat hire available, as well as a golf course. There are delightful fishing villages to explore, including Polperro and Looe, and several lovely gardens to visit. A short drive to the north is the moated 13th-century Restormel Castle, and Lanhydrock House (NT), the grandest house in Cornwall with an exquisite Long Gallery ceiling and lovely grounds. A steam railway runs to Bodmin, on the edge of Bodmin Moor - the smallest and most accessible of the West Country's moors.
