Wonderful beaches combine with Atlantic rollers to provide great surfing on the famous Fistral Beach, with lifeguards, surfing lessons and popular, often-televised surf competitions. Crantock, with village shops and pubs, offer quieter pursuits for those wishing to get away from it all. The nearby Gannel estuary provides the perfect place to explore sandy inlets full of pools with interesting sea creatures. Ideal for touring the North Cornwall coast. The nearby fishing port of Padstow is easily accessible and is almost as popular as Newquay, but has a much more sedate feel to it. The harbour is packed with boats offering cruises in Padstow Bay, whilst a regular ferry sails to Rock and the excellent beaches at Polzeath.
