Tucked away off the beaten track in a most peaceful location, Sandwell Lodge is the original gatehouse to Sandwell manor. Now beautifully converted and extensively remodelled, it is the quintessential country cottage, with pretty gardens and the added bonus of a large detached games room above the garage. Tastefully furnished throughout with good-sized accommodation it is a delightful property for the larger family. Situated on the edge of Totnes in the parish of Harberton, it stands next to Yeo bridge which spans the river Harbourne, and was once a post house on the main Plymouth to London road. Yeo bridge has an inlaid tablet giving information about how it was built in 1688, the stone for the construction and that of Sandwell Lodge coming from the quarry. Across the lane is 7 acres of pasture land with the river Harbourne running through. Visitors are welcome to walk through the meadows and along the bank of the river. So quiet and undisturbed, there is an abundance of birds and wildlife in this area. Totnes (4 miles) offers town amenities including a sports centre, ancient castle ruins, art galleries and river trips to Dartmouth. Many restaurants, bistros and bars can be found in Totnes, and on Fridays the town is bustling with its market day. Just outside Totnes, Dartington Hall Visitors' Centre is worth a visit and the Cott Inn near Dartington is a pub renowned for good food. For walkers, both the Dartmoor National Park and the South Devon Coastal Path are within easy touring distance. The historic naval town of Dartmouth (10 miles) is an interesting town full of narrow streets, fine historic buildings and a yachting marina. The Dartmouth Golf and Country Club features an 18-hole championship course, together with a health and leisure club. Sandy beaches, riding, a children's leisure park, and many good pub/restaurants can be found within 10 miles, with the sandy beach at Blackpool Sands 15 miles.
