 Ilsham Cottage
Wellswood, Torquay, S. Devon.,United Kingdom
A delightful limestone cottage over 150 years old, nestled in the heart of Wellswood village in the exclusive area of Ilsham, as mentioned in the Domesday book, and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and scientific interest. The interior has been lovingly restored, retaining much of its Victorian charm and character, and is complemented by Laura Ashley eclectic furniture and décor. Outside, the cottage also features a very pretty, well stocked enclosed cottage garden, with an abundance of plants such as wisteria, agapanthus, lilies and roses. A summer house and a shady patio area are also provided in the garden, where guests can retreat to in the heat of summer. The accommodation is arranged over three levels - with two small, charming bedrooms up in the attic, each with exposed beams and sloping ceilings. There are two further bedrooms on the first floor, whilst the living room, dining-room and kitchen are all on the ground floor. There are Victorian maple and pine floors with rugs throughout the house. The dining-room opens through French doors onto the sunny enclosed garden. The cottage was once owned by Lord Hesketh, who owned much of the Wellswood area. The village itself has a cosmopolitan feel, with French and Italian restaurants, cafés, a delicatessen, a range of small shops and a traditional English pub. The cottage lies just 200 yards from the renowned, prehistoric Kents Caverns, and is only a 10-minute walk to the Blue Flag beaches of Meadfoot and Redgate, and 1 mile away from Babbacombe with its model village, beaches and golf course. The main town centre of Torquay approximately 1 mile away.
