The Pennine Way literally skirts the garden walls and the South Tynedale steam train runs to the bottom of the adjacent fields. The pretty town of Alston has quaint cobbled streets and was the setting for the recent Oliver film. Dyke Cottage is perfectly placed for exploring the area with Hadrian's Wall, the Lake District and unspoilt Cumbria all easily accessible. The glorious coast and countryside of Northumbria are also within easy reach.
