In an idyllic location at the access to the Duddon Valley, this superb traditional and detached Lakeland country house was built about 250 years ago, and is set in beautiful gardens with many varieties of mature trees. Red squirrels, peregrine falcons, deer and other wildlife abound in the area, and the views of the Duddon Valley, which inspired many of the writings of William Wordsworth, are breathtaking. There is wonderful walking from the door, and further up the valley lie Harter Fell, the Ulpha Fells, Dow Crag and Coniston Old Man. A short drive up the Duddon Valley towards Wrynose Pass gives access to the Langdale and Wasdale Valleys, as well as the towns of Coniston, Hawkshead, Ambleside and Grasmere. Grasmere - the home of the poet William Wordsworth - is popular with visitors while both Dove Cottage (where he wrote some of his finest poetry) and Rydal Mount (where the poet lived later) are open to the public. Spring Bank lies just a mile from the historic market town of Broughton-in-Furness, which has excellent amenities including pubs, restaurants and a local butcher and baker. The whole of south-western Lakeland, including its coast, is on the doorstep. Wonderful days out include the South Lakes Animal Park at nearby Dalton, which is recognised as one of Europe's leading conservation zoos and is home to many rare breeds including Amur and Sumatran Tigers. Muncaster Castle and grounds, the Eskdale miniature railway, the Lakes Aquarium and boat trips on Coniston Water are other good family days out. Alternatively simply relax in the cosy conservatory and chill with a good book.
