This idyllic Tower Wing, tastefully furnished throughout, is part of Stanhope Castle and one of a few properties in the castle. Several parts of the castle overlook the cobbled market place and the River Weir with sweeping views across the hills and dales, the Grade II listed building stands in large landscaped gardens and woodland, including a small, shared, designated picnic and barbecue area. The river is less than a five-minute walk away and there is an open air swimming pool nearby (open to the public May to Sept) and a steam railway line within Stanhope. The historic village of Stanhope is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by open fields and has friendly pubs, shops and cafés. The Durham Dales Visitors Centre lies opposite the castle entrance. This cosy and welcoming property is the perfect base from which to explore the North Pennines, which boast some of the finest scenery in England and are a walker's and cyclist's paradise. This is an area noted for its diversity of wildlife and recognised scenic qualities, ideally located to explore Teesdale, Weardale, Northumberland and the Yorkshire Dales. Many visitor attractions are in close driving distance including the medieval majestic castle in Raby with its 200-acre deer park. Bishop Auckland and Barnard Castle are two fine market towns bustling with fine shops, galleries, eateries and pubs. Less than an hour away is Hadrian's Wall country with the market towns of Hexham and Corbridge. Beamish Museum and Durham City are 30 miles. Pub 100 yards.
