Nessie's Snuggle Bug - At Kerrowdown Mill Retreat

Drumnadrochit, By Loch Ness.,United Kingdom

"A tranquil retreat set amidst beautiful countryside with stunning views over Loch Ness..."

Enjoying an elevated, south-facing location, Kerrowdown Mill has an enviable location - overlooking Loch Ness and the Urquhart valley. Kerrowdown Mill is an approximately one hundred year old traditional stone built mill that has been tastefully converted into seven holiday cottages, each offering very comfortable accommodation with either views overlooking farmland, pretty central courtyard garden, with views over Urquhart Bay and the Great Glen Way. All are eco-friendly and organically aware, and most of the properties have en-suite facilities, each with its own individual, original character and special features. Steeped in mythical history, Kerrowdown Mill is perfectly placed as a base for exploring the rest of the Scottish Highlands. There is so much to see and do around Loch Ness, with steamer trips on the loch itself or alternatively, visitors can hire a cruiser to navigate the country's largest lake, to discover hidden nooks and crannies and possibly a sighting of the famous monster itself - Nessie. Fort Augustus sits at one end of the loch and boasts a series of locks, which allow boats to ascend the Caledonian Canal. There is also a historic abbey - built on the site of a military fort. On the south side of the loch are the cosy villages of Foyers and Dores. Activities locally include, walking, fishing, bird-watching, horse riding, sailing and boat trips. Urquhart Castle, just 5 minutes away, is one of the largest castles in Scotland and gives spectacular views up and down Loch Ness. Inverness (14 miles) is easily accessible for the day, with its wealth of shops, restaurants and pubs. Fort William is set on the stunning Loch Linnhe with the snow-streaked bulk of Ben Nevis rising behind and is known to the many walkers and climbers that visit as `Fort Bill'. Guided walks can be taken up Ben Nevis, but for the less energetic an alternative walk can be taken to the top of the glen, which leads through a dramatic gorge with impressive falls and rapids and then opens out into a delightful valley, carpeted with wild flowers and an impressive waterfall at the far end. East of Inverness lies the sheltered coastal strip of the Moray Firth, with its many historical sites and castles. The Moray Firth is only one of three areas in the UK that supports a resident population of dolphins. There are over a hundred bottle-nosed dolphins and there is a excellent chance of spotting them from either the shore or a boat. From Kerrowdown Mill, visitors can take the A82 joining the A87 to the Western Highlands only an hour away, to visit the magnificent Five Sisters of Kintail Mountain Range, set in Glenshiel called the Peaceful Valley, overlooking Loch Duich. Where the golden eagles, wild otters, porpoise and minky whales hide out - Scotland's most secret hideaway. Follow down Loch Duich to the famous Eilean Donan Castle, which is believed to be the most photographed castle in the world, overlooking the Isle of Skye.
