Waterfall View

Glendale, Isle of Skye.,United Kingdom

Nestling against the side of a small heather-clad hillock, this lovely detached house enjoys wonderful views across open countryside towards the crystal clear waters of Loch Pooltiel, Dunvegan Head, and on a clear day, the Outer Hebrides. Waterfall View provides the ideal retreat for relaxing and watching the ever changing vistas, and is a super base for touring this mystical and historic island. Skye is the most important centre for Gaelic culture outside the Western Isles, and almost half the population speak Gaelic fluently; the Gaelic College on Sleat (Skye's most southern tip) is the most important in Scotland. For a sample of the local culture, visitors to the island during mid-july can experience the two-week long Skye and Lochalsh Festival - the Feis an Eilean. One of the most popular sights on Skye is the Cuillin ridge, made up of jagged snow-topped peaks, which can be seen from miles around, and are suitable for experienced walkers. The other main attarction on the island are the unusual rock formations of the Trotternish peninsula, where the pillars and pinnacles are at their most dramatic in the Quiraing above Staffin Bay, on the east coast. Whilst on the island, the `capital' Portree is worth a visit, with its picturesque fishing harbour encircled with restaurants, and a mile or so out of town, visitors can experience the Aros Centre - which gives a history of the island with special effects and life-size figures. Exhibitions and concerts can also be enjoyed at the contemporary Tuireann Arts Centre. Heading for Carbost on the Minginish peninsula, the Talisker whisky distillery will prove popular with connoisseurs, whilst at Broadford, the Skye Serpentarium makes for an interesting diversion. Trips on glass-bottomed boats, mountain biking, kayaking and fishing are just some of the many activities which are available. Just a short drive is the famous Three Chimneys Restaurant. Pubs 2-3 miles.
