Set within the charming private estate of Kirnan House, in an AONB, Chapel Cottage (SEEJ) which is one of a pair, single-storey Torrnaleich Cottage (SEEK) and Heron Cottage (SGGI) which are both one of row, offer the perfect retreat for families, friends and couples to relax and unwind from the pressures of everyday life. Situated close to the owner's 18th-century home, and surrounded by 630 acres of unspoilt woodland, the properties have been sympathetically renovated, creating attractive accommodation to the highest standard. Steeped in history, this spectacular estate is a historical seat of the branch of Campbell's of Argyll. In 1890, the ruins of the original house and buildings were extended and renovated to form a shooting lodge. The property was subsequently leased to a botanist who in 1920 laid out an extensive shrub garden which became the second most famous garden in the west of Scotland. The surrounding woodlands are a haven for wildlife lovers, where sika, roe and red deer can all be seen roaming freely. Scottish wild cats, red squirrels, pine martens, wood cocks, rabbits and snipe have also made this land their own. There are also frequent sightings of buzzards, heron, eagles and osprey. Beyond the pastureland of Kirnan, and protected by Scottish Natural Heritage, is home to the extremely rare marsh fritillary butterfly. These woods also contain the ruins of an ancient medieval fort and stone carvings, and border two private lochs, `Torrnaleich' and `Lochan na Curaich' which can be fished for trout. Kirnan also owns 4 miles of the River Add which is available for salmon and trout fishing. Other local attractions include excellent restaurants, museums, castles, walks and cycle paths, and the famous Crinan Canal. Pubs 5 miles.
