 Cruachan House
Kilchrenan, by Taynuilt, Argyll.,United Kingdom
In an elevated position, with stunning views of Loch Awe and Ben Cruachan, this delightful house is furnished, decorated and equipped to the S.T.B. `4 Star' standard and is set in its own garden on a 30-acre private estate on the shores of the loch. It has been carefully designed to create an overall impression of light and space, whilst its layout makes the most of its fine location. Acclaimed as one of Scotland's most picturesque lochs, Loch Awe is surrounded by high mountains, and its calm waters are dotted with wooded islands, many with castles which recall the turbulent history of Argyll and its clans. There is good fishing and excellent launching facilities for visitors' boats, as well as a pier and sheltered mooring in the bay - arrangements can be made for boat hire. Excellent walking can be enjoyed locally or in the private wooded grounds. The rhododendrons are a riot of colour in May/June. There are many fine forest walks which are also suitable for cycling. There is much to interest the naturalist and bird-watcher. The grounds are ideal for a peaceful and relaxed holiday but other activities can be arranged, such as guided walks and clay pigeon shoots. Oban is nearby and boasts a wide choice of shops, bars and restaurants. The annual Argyllshire Gathering takes place in August, featuring piping competitions and Highland Games - sure to be a hit with all the family! The Oban Sea Life Centre, Oban Rare Breeds Farm Park, The Hollow Mountain and three excellent golf courses can all be found nearby. This is a superb touring centre for the Western Highlands. Oban is only 40 minutes by car, with a good choice of shops, restaurants and bars - as well as a cinema, theatre, sports centre, golf, tennis, sailing and ferries to the islands. One of Scotland's finest restaurants is only 2 miles away, and in the village we have a friendly inn serving good food.
