From Truro a boat trip can be taken to St Mawes, Falmouth or the Helford river to explore Daphne du Maurier's Frenchman's Creek. Falmouth is nearby with a choice of sandy beaches and excellent sailing. The National Maritime Museum and Pendennis Castle are popular attractions together with the multitude of gardens open to the public. Trelissick Gardens is at the head of the Fal estuary with sweeping panoramic views and woodland walks along the river amidst the surrounding parkland. Glendurgan Garden at Mawnan Smith is a valley garden created in the 1820s, which offers a maze and many species of exotic and rare plants with showy camellias and magnolias making a magnificent display. Alternatively head to the north coast for Perranporth with its wide sandy beaches and surfing schools or visit St Austell for the exciting Eden Project or the Lost Gardens of Heligan. In addition there are many golf courses in the area or just explore the many walks along the South West Coastal Path with spectacular scenery.
