 Higher Grogley Farm
Nr Ruthernbridge, Cornwall.,United Kingdom
Tucked in a quiet wooded valley, this detached former farmhouse offers character and charm in a delightful setting. Featured in the BBC's Good Homes magazine October 2005, the property has been tastefully renovated, and is owned by the artist/author Janet Shearer whose mural work can be seen in the house itself. In warmer weather, the tranquillity of the south-facing, sheltered location can be appreciated whilst sitting out on the slate terrace and admiring the cottage gardens. Equally, during winter months, a cosy chat can be enjoyed around the large dining table in the slate-floored kitchen/dining-room. Artistic skills may even be rediscovered especially in the winter months as tuition in the owner's studio can be arranged, taking inspiration in the gardens or from the local scenery visited on foot. Friendly dogs, cats and horses are also on the premises. Higher Grogley Farm is centrally located for the attractions of Cornwall, including the nearby Eden Project, and also makes a good base for inland and coastal walking - lying within 25 minutes of both the North and South coasts. Close by is the Camel trail, a sixteen-mile combined walk and cycle track (from Padstow to Wenford Bridge) which wends its way alongside the River Camel. The picturesque trail has been created from the route of the Old Atlantic Coast Express - once quoted by Betjeman as `the best journey in England'. Cycle rides can be made to Padstow where fish and chips can be enjoyed at Rick Stein's takeaway fish and chip shop or any of the other fabulous take-aways, or where visitors can simply browse around the many wonderful gift shops in the town. There is also nearby fishing and pony trekking, and within easy reach are many NT properties - Lanhydrock is only 3 miles away with extensive grounds or further to the Lost Gardens Of Heligan, Pencarrow House or the mystery of Daphne du Maurier's Jamaica Inn.
