In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the shores of Loch Ness, this spacious and very comfortable 1930s house enjoys a superb location in total seclusion on Port Point - described by many as one of the best locations in the Highlands. From the house and grounds are stunning long-distance views over the loch and mountains, stretching 25 miles to the north as far as the Moray Firth, 4 miles to the south and a mile across the loch. Surrounding the house are 3½ acres of lawns and woods, with a terraced area at the front, from where paths lead down to its natural harbour on the loch side. There are wonderful walks along the loch side, good fishing from the property (permit available from Fort Augustus 4 miles away), wind surfing and canoeing can also be enjoyed, while the less energetic can indulge in a little monster-spotting from the comfort of the house.Away from this beautiful spot there is plenty of interest for visitors. Fort Augustus (4 miles) stands on the Caledonian Canal, a magnificent relic of 19th-century engineering, built to link the North and Irish Seas. At the northern end of Loch Ness lies Inverness, the `capital' of the Highlands, with a museum and art gallery, excellent shops and a theatre complex. To the east lies the famous Culloden Battlefield site where Bonnie Prince Charlie was defeated in 1746. There is wonderful walking in a wild unspoilt landscape of wooded glens and soaring mountains, rich in local wildlife. The area can also be explored on horseback, from Fort Augustus. Golf 4 miles. Skiing 25 miles. Pub 2 miles.
