Oban, Argyll.,United Kingdom
Stunning views over the Firth of Lorne to the islands of Lismore and Mull can be enjoyed from this spacious, architect-designed, detached holiday property which is superbly situated for taking advantage of the many walking, cycling and fishing opportunites to be found locally. A stream trickles through the delightful hillside garden and the area is a nature lover's paradise with an abundance of flora and fauna. A mere 300 yards away lies Ganavan's white sandy beach along which to stroll and enjoy magnificent sunsets on clear evenings. Boat trips are available locally, from which to discover the mystical islands of Mull, Iona, Coll, Tiree and Colonsay. On Mull visit historic Iona and the pretty fising village of Tobermory, home to the children's TV series, Balamory or take the steam train to Torosay Castle. Book a trip to the Treshnish Isles with its abundant bird life and Staffa with its strange pillard formation. Just offshore, the Isle of Lismore offers ideal biking terrain, and has medieval castles and forts of its own to explore as well as an abundance of wild flowers. History lovers can also make a journey to Kilmartin Glen where its standing stones, cairns and award-winning museum pay testament to a bygone era. The nearby castles of Dunollie, Dunstaffnage and Gylen on Kerrera also transport visitors back in time; all strategically positioned with magnificent views. For a different view, take a 'Castles Cruise' and see them all from the sea. Just north of Oban the Sea Life Centre gives a fascinating insight under the world beneath the sea and there is an otter sanctuary and seal pool. Back in Oban, known affectionately as the 'Gateway to the Isles', there is an excellent distillery, McCaig's Tower and an excellent selection of shops, pubs and restaurants with some specialist seafood dining. Oban also has a good leisure centre with pool and gym facilities. For the active there are challenging golf courses in the area, as well as horse riding, sailing, go-karting, fishing and sea angling. Both north and south of Oban there are numerous forest walks to enjoy and Argyll offers a garden for everyone to discover. A range of Highland Games takes place throughout the summer with Highland dancing, piping and tossing the Caber.
