 Eriskay
Whitehouse, Nr Tarbert, Argyll.,United Kingdom
Located just 6 miles south of Tarbert on the beautiful Kintyre peninsula, this unique detached cottage is surrounded by 5acres of mature woodland and enjoys stunning, elevated views across West Loch Tarbert and out to the isles of Jura and Islay. Accessed via an un-made road, the property is tastefully furnished with brass beds, antique furniture and reclaimed pine floors throughout the house. Tarbert is a traditional harbour town, sheltering an attractive little bay backed by rugged hills, and both fishing and sailing are available. From the cottage it is possible to make day trips to explore the Kintyre Peninsula, including local landmarks of Skipness Castle, the village of Carradale, the Mull of Kintyre, Arran and Gigha. Lying just off the west coast of Kintyre, the Isle of Gigha offers a pleasant day trip for visitors. Quite apart from the peace and quiet that it offers, its white sandy beaches and renowned Achamore Gardens are other visitor attractions. A riot of colour in early summer - when the rich colours of azaleas and rhodedendrons are at their best - the Gardens were established by Sir James Horlick, the first postwar owner. Within a short distance there are many quiet and sandy beaches to explore and there is easy access to the Isles of Islay, Arran and Jura - all of which are well worth the visit. Jura, one of the wildest and most mountainous of the Inner Hebrides, is an ideal place to go for peace and quiet and some great walking. It was here that George Orwell wrote his famous novel, 1984. Islay is a great place to visit for wildlife enthusiasts, as it boasts a large RSPB reserve, a wintering population of barnacle and white-fronted geese, and a Wildlife Information Centre. Seals and otters can be often be seen on the sand dunes at Ardnave Loch. The picturesque Crinan Canal offers beautiful, unstrenuous walks and Lochgilphead has indoor sports facilities, horse riding, golf and cycling.
