The cottage is an excellent holiday base for walking, the Coast to Coast Walk and Pennine Way being nearby, for the Settle/Carlisle Railway, and for touring, being midway between the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales, Kirkby Stephen is 2.5 miles and Appleby 9 miles.

WIthin easy reach is the market town of Kendal, known as ?The auld grey town?, because of its many fine grey limestone buildings. Kendal is situated in the valley of the River Kent and surrounded on three sides by a background of Lakeland fells and beautiful countryside.
