Rose and March Cottages are adjacent to the owner's residence. Situated in their own paddock, they are semi-detached with whitewashed stone walls, each with its own separate entrance. They are full of character with beams and open fires. Oughterard, on the shores of Lough Corrib, is a lovely historic village, with its thatched pub, traditional stone fronts and a 19th century church, set at the gateway of the beautiful Connemara Mountain area. Its many shops, pubs and restaurants make it the ideal location to experience a small Irish village and a base from which to explore the breathtaking scenery.The lovely Owenriff River runs through Oughterard, starting in the Connemara mountains and ending its journey, at the edge of town, into Lough Corrib, which runs alongside Oughterard, and is the largest lake in Ireland. It offers some of the most spectacular views around and is a renowned fishing location. The fresh water trout and salmon bring fishermen from all over the world to try their luck or to savour it in the Oughterard restaurants.There are many lovely drives around the area as well as trails for walking and hiking. Famous tourist spots within close driving distance include Aughnanure Castle, Kylemore Abbey and Inchagoill Island. It is also only 17 miles from Galway City, the third largest city in the Republic, offering souvenir shopping as well as a taste of European styles.The Connemara Mountains, just west of town, provide some of the most breathtaking scenery with rocky landscapes, scattered lakes and sheep dotting the mountainsides.
