Overlooking the sea on an elevated site above the small fishing village of Portmagee, this spacious detached house has been furnished to a high standard, with outdoor decking making full use of the stunning sea views across the water to Valentia Island and out to the Atlantic Ocean. The village is within an easy walk, where there are pubs and restaurants. A couple of minutes' walk leads to the seashore below the house, where there is a small beach area and walkway to the village of Portmagee, where fishermen unload their catch and boats make visits to the Skellig Islands - an archaeological site and bird sanctuary. This really is a comfortable base for large family groups to explore the Ring of Kerry and Killarney, with plenty of scenic walks to be taken as well as drives. Nearer to home is the local Sceilig Ring which takes in some of the most spectacular local scenery including views from different locations of the Skellig Islands. Nearby Valentia Island, which has the advantage of landbridge access, has lots of interesting archaelogical sites to explore, Glanleam Gardens, Skellig Interpretive Centre, an interesting local museum to browse through, and its own pubs and restaurants. Valentia is Ireland's most westerly harbour and this house is located at the harbour's narrow entrance. Other activities on the island include diving and sailing, and is a mecca for walkers of all abilities, with lots of gems to be discovered including Bray Head, The Grotto, the lighthouse and Culloo. Here, the fishing enthusiast will delight in deep sea angling or shore fishing, or you can hire a boat from the pier at Knightstown. You may be lucky enough to land a Conger Eel, Red Sea Bream or a Lesser Spotted Dog Fish. Shop 1 mile.
