Waterswallow Cottage, is ideal for the family holiday and has many original features whilst set in a delightful rural location. The cottage is fully equipped to make your stay more enjoyable. This cottage is perfectly complimented with the charm & character which you will enjoy, and the country feel which is all around providing some beautiful views from the cottage.Ideally placed for walking,touring or just relaxing.

Waterswallow cottage has one double bedroom, and two separate single bedrooms. (one of the single bedrooms is located on the ground floor for easy access). Digital Sat TV! Waterswallow Cottages has a full equipped dining kitchen area and also an outside patio area which is ideal for a relaxing glass of wine in the evening. Don't forget to bring your camera and binoculars, because there is lots of wildlife and beautiful birds to be seen. Including the woodpecker! Secure storage for bikes. Walkers,cyclists,bikers and families welcome.
Why not feed our free range hens and sample some of their eggs.

Accessibility Details

a) Rail - The main railway station is Malton which is approximately 5 miles away.

b) Taxi There are several taxi services in Kirkbymoorside

C) Bus - The moors bus service runs a regular bus service during the summer school holiday period & some weekends until October. Please check the moors bus service time table for further information. The moors bus will stop directly outside the driveway to Halfway House Cottages. Please let the driver know where you are staying.

There are regular bus services on the A170 to Scarborough, Thornton-le-dale, Helmsley and Thirsk.

Stephenson’s buses operate a service from Kirkbymoorside to Helmsley,Easingwold & York

More bus services run from Pickering and information is available from the Tourist Information Centre which is opposite the bus terminal.


The approach to both Cottages is by a gravel driveway, which provides ample parking for both cottages

Woodpecker Cottage(sleeps 2 ) is accessed on the ground floor level. On the ground floor there is the kitchen & bathroom. There are approx 7 steps to the lounge area with another 8 steps to the bedroom area.

Waterswallow Cottage is accessed via approx 10 steps leading to the ground floor level. There is hand railing down to the cottage.

On the ground floor there is a bathroom, kitchen and single bedroom.

There are approx 6 steps to the lounge area and another 6 steps to the double bedroom and further single bedroom.

There are several outside seating areas for both cottages and ample parking near both cottages.

If any of our guests would like help with their luggage please ask.

We have covered space for a wheel chair and provision for charging over night.

Wheel chairs may be hired from our local Tourist information centres please book early.

Getting Here

OPTION 1
Simple directions by road using the A1 and Sutton bank * Sutton Bank is a VERY steep hill and is best avoided during winter months *

Using the A1 North or South, exit at junction 49 onto the A168 towards Thirsk.

Exit the A168, onto the A170 York road towards Thirsk.

After approx 1/4mile turn right at the round about onto the A170 Sutton Road.

Stay on the A170 towards Pickering/Scarborough for approx 20 miles.

Approx 1/2mile after passing Kirkbymooride, turn left at the Brown Tourist sign for Ryedale Folk Museum, onto Gray Lane.

Halfwayhouse cottages are located on the right side after approx 1 mile.

OPTION 2
A1 via York, Malton and Pickering 1) FROM THE SOUTH

Exit the A1 North at junction 45 onto the A64 towards York.

Keep on the A64 for approx 34 miles towards Malton.

Shortly after Malton take the A169 towards Pickering.

In Pickering, at the round about where the A169 meets the A170, take the A170 towards Helmsley/Kirkbymoorside.

After approx 6.5miles turn right at the Brown Tourist sign for Rydale Folk museum onto Gray Lane.

Halfwayhouse cottages are located on the right side after approx 1 mile.



OPTION 3 - FROM THE NORTH

Exit the A1 at Junction 47 onto the A59 York Rd, towards York.

After approx 9 1/2 miles take the A1237 towards Rawcliffe/Huntington/Heworth.

Stay on the A1237 for approx 6 miles and then take the A64 towards Malton.

After approx 16 miles take the A169 towards Pickering.

In Pickering, at the round about where the A169 meets the A170, take the A170 towards Helmsley/Kirkbymoorside.

After approx 6.5miles turn right at the Brown Tourist sign for Rydale Folk museum onto Gray Lane.
