Description of Penny Cottage

Welcome to lovely Penny Cottage! Stunning south facing views of rolling hills. Comfortable and homey annexe cottage with its open plan kitchen/dining/living room, and garden space for outdoor dining and relaxing.

Located in quaint Devon village nestled in the Teign Valley. A hidden gem. Two stunning tors within walking distance, climb to the top for a fabulous view. Three beautiful reservoirs to walk around a short drive away. Many lovely walks from the door along country lanes and streams. Very kid friendly village. Children will be delighted by the many animals in fields all around; horses, cows, pigs, sheep and alpaca. Also, a lovely play park and two woodland parks (maintained by a local conservation group). The local pub (within in walking distance) is friendly and cosy, serving home cooked food, and won pub of the year (2016) for South Devon. Local vegetable farm that delivers to the door on Fridays and a friendly place to visit. Golf course located just 10 mins drive away with stunning views. Truly a place to escape and have a wonderful time.

  • Downstairs, there is an open plan kitchen/dining/living room.
  • There are large sliding doors maximising the beautiful view.
  • Outside, there is a small patio garden for dining and relaxing in.
  • The annexe garden is connected to the garden of the main house, which is not for guests' use but does add to the sense of space and beauty.
  • The kitchen is well equipped for self catering (note there is no freezer or dishwasher). It also has a washing machine.
  • Upstairs, the bedroom and bathroom are located (these have velux windows and are very bright but do not have the view).
  • The cottage is ideal for three adults or two adults and two children.
  • The main bed is kingsize and can be separated into twins (it has a special zip feature that means it becomes a proper double, not two twins simply pushed together).
  • There is also a single bed in a mezzanine area. The sofa in the living room can be converted into a sofa bed also.
  • There is ample cupboard space for storing clothes. The bathroom is modern and bright with a large walk-in shower.
  • We live in the adjoining house and will be available most of the time if needed. We can provide lots of ideas and inspiration for things to do and places to see. A warm welcome on arrival, and if desired, a friendly dinner all together may be possible.

Local Information

The local village pub has a small shop with a few essentials. Nearby villages have a larger selection. Exeter city is a 25 min drive away with most supermarkets (a bus also goes there). There is also a local vegetable farm that delivers to door (see Whippletree Farm). The local Bridford Inn is award winning and serves traditional pub food. There are several pubs within 5 mins driving distance that also serve very good food. The Teign House serves lovely Thai style food (in addition to the usual) and the reputable Nobody Inn of Dooddicomsleigh is nearby.

Bridford is set in a rural location, so it's ideal for nature lovers and those seeking a bit of activity. There are two stunning tors within walking distance, climb to the top for a fabulous view. Three beautiful reservoirs to walk around a short drive away. Many lovely walks from the door along country lanes and streams. Children will be delighted by the many animals in fields all around; horses, cows, pigs, sheep and alpaca. Also, a lovely play park and two woodland parks (maintained by a local conservation group).

In the Teign Valley, there is a golf course located just 10 mins drive away with stunning views. Also, there is Canonteign Falls a bit further on, which is a local tourist attraction. This area of Devon is a real treasure trove of things to do and see. We are happy to offer information and suggestions.
