Ivy Cottage is situated in a magical place between Preston and Lancaster in the Forest of Bowland in the centre the small hamlet of Calder Vale. A walkers paradise the area is a haven for people wanting to get away from the hussle and bussle of the Lake District.

The bus from Calder Vale is on the hour into Garstang, then a bus to Lancaster . By car it is 25mins/11miles along the moor road, on the top of the fell overlooking Nicky Nook, and takes you right into Galgate. There is no gas into the village so central heating is by coal and wood, it works very as the log burner is a decent size. Radiators are in each room. The River Calder runs through the hamlet and can been seen from the bedroom window. There is a gas stove with two larger butane bottles. Central Lakes is 40 minutes away. The village of Garstang is 10 minutes away and has many shops and restaurants. The historic city of Lancaster is also about 25 minutes away taking the moor road on the top of the fells. There is also a working cotton mill in the centre of the village. Also plenty hiking to do in this lovely part of the country. The village has a post office that has general foods.
Blackpool is 40 minutes away.

19 hole golf coarse with driving range 10 minutes away at Garstang Country Club. Game and Coarse fishing is within 15 minutes drive. Also the old lodge lake is stoked with fish and a permit can be obtained from the Mill.

Overall Calder Vale is truly one of the last remaining villages that maintain its sense of community and social cohesion.
