Customer Reviews

Familiy with older children
13th August 2012
the cottage was very clean and furnished to a good modern standard, somehow we hadn't realised it was a two bathroom property or all on one floor which was a bonus. it seemed they had provided for every possible need, including 3 good size sturdy umbrellas, which were sadly necessary 1st few days.living room was quite comfortable, we had a restricted view of the inlet and if you craned neck and looked far right could see the sea so not a direct sea view although we knew that from brochure. sadly no outside garden at all, nowhere to hang washing, but they had washer/dryer so that solved that problem. when we booked the parking was not guaranteed, BUT there is an agreement with a property to park during summer months, and we were lucky to always have access. the owners daughter told us cobblers cottage tenants have authority to park there as its been pre paid for, however other unscrupulous holiday makers pinch the spaces and that must be where the can't guarantee comes in. a few days spent there and you quickly realise having a parking space is very desirable. port issac is gorgeous and the cottage is very well placed, it is a fairly steep hill but not unbearable, i could walk it 2 or 3 times a day, taking it easy, the worst trek was up the steeper section to where the car was parked, so when you saw cottages WITH parking you couldn't help but feel jealous. the location is great for day trips out, easily in reach of the eden project, tintagel and newquay, and it was nice to come back to that beautiful little harbour, where ever you pointed your camera you had a picture postcard. we certainly fell in love with the place.
as pointed out by a past tenant, there is an area by the front door step that is unstable, they've put a stone over to level out and its not cemented in, seems petty, but could be a health and safety issue, but at least theres no flight of steps up. for some reason there was no bulb in the kitchen light and this is also your entrance room, there was a spare bulb in kitchen drawer, but not the correct type.(needed a push in bulb not screw in) it seemed a really neglectful foolish error, we managed ok with the cooker hood light, but a very well appointed cottage otherwise. the only thing to really improve the cottage is impossible, access to a garden or veranda, for this reason its not possible to take pets too (its no pet policy anyway) but the entire area is the most dog friendly we've ever seen and we missed our dogs badly, so next time we'd want to bring them along. if you want to take dogs there are plenty of places that allow, we enquired into some and the prices better than cobblers with a garden and parking space too, although maybe cutting out the travel agents would benefit. one last gripe was the stiffness of the door lock and i worried if they key would snap and we'd be stranded, sounds silly but sensible concern. is there a nearby householder who holds a spare? it could be a useful thing to know. also a big hit with a moody teenager would be wi fi access, also good for researching the local area, this was quite a techno free week and the strain was showing for the 15 yr old.
"don't take a tinopener. the cottage has scissors, most kitchen utensils, only thing we lacked was a good baking tray for roasts. we found the mote restaurant had great food and service, we went there twice, but dining and drinking out expensive so make a journey to wadebridge to the tesco there and get your food and supplies.. the local co-op is VERY expensive, the nearby chip shop is very tolerable, consistently nice chips and about the usual price of city chippys."
