With majestic scenery throughout the seasons and with direct access to Sandymouth Beach, Houndapitt offers a unique location. The large games room, play area and fishing ponds are exclusively for the use of our customers, making the complete Cornish holiday experience.

Throughout the seasons Houndapitt’s fabulous location ensures a wonderful holiday experience for all – couples, families, dog-owners, walkers, surfers, cyclists and photographers will all find plenty to do at Houndapitt whatever the weather. Situated only one mile from the beautiful Sandymouth Bay and surrounded by fields, footpaths and fantastic views; relaxing pursuits are right on our doorstep.

  • We are committed to you really enjoying your holiday, so we have tried to think of what will make a difference to our stay with us. We have the following facilities on site:
  • Games Room - A large, safe play space for all the family. Here you can have a game on the pool table, play table tennis or table football or even have a game on the air hockey table! And if you just want to relax you can lounge in the comfy sofas provided. Meanwhile the smaller members of the family can enjoy their own play space, featuring an array of toys and playthings.
  • Outdoor Play Area - The adventure play area has swings, a giant slide, monkey bars, a playhouse and the safely netted trampoline, which is particularly popular with children...and big kids too! Please note though that the trampoline will be unavailable for the winter months (November to Easter).
  • Fishing Lakes - Our FREE and well stocked coarse fishing lakes are available to all guests (an adult must accompany Children under the age of 11 years) so we hope you bring your fishing rod! Furthermore, even if you don't fish, the fishing area itself is also a breathtaking haven for wildlife, including Canada geese, butterflies and dragonflies.
  • DVD library - We have a huge library of DVD's for you to borrow. Old and new, there is something for everyone
  • Dog walking field - behind the barns is a large field which is perfect for exercising your four legged friends!
  • BBQ's, parasols and wind breaks - we have these sunny day essentials stored in the games room, free for you to borrow. Outside the games room we also have the brick built barbecue with picnic tables and benches providing an ideal place to watch uninterrupted views of our spectacular sunsets.
  • WiFi - free wireless internet access is available in all cottages in order for you to experience 21st century technology alongside the classic, picturesque qualities of Houndapitt Cottages.
  • Laundry Facilities - A tedious reality we know.. but our large, coin operated washing machine and tumble dryer are quick and efficient so you can get the washing out of the way as soon as possible! There are also irons and ironing boards provided and we have an outdoor drying area with washing lines and pegs for your use. There is also an outdoor hose and tap for rinsing sandy surfboards and beach gear.

Local Information

Houndapitt Farm is superbly placed in the Cornish countryside and yet is only three quarters of a mile from Sandymouth beach which is monitored and controlled by the National Trust. A large portion of the surrounding area of Houndapitt is even officially designated an area of outstanding natural beauty. We also get our fair share of wildlife here at Houndapitt, from swallows to our resident barn owl in the summer months.

The location of Houndapitt in the north cornwall countryside situates it nearby many fantastic attractions that will keep you entertained during your holiday including:

Beaches - We offer a superb location to enjoy some of the best beaches in the country, with some ofthe best Surfing too. We are only 1 mile from Sandymouth Bay (a renowned 'secret' surf spot) and 4 miles from the sandy beaches of Bude.
Fishing - We have our very own, on site course fishing lakes and if that's not enough, there are various other excellent places to fish in the region so don't forget to bring your rod!
Walking - We have many seaside and countryside walks nearby and we are only 1 mile from the South West Coastal path
Cycling - This is yet another enjoyable way to explore the local area with many fantastic cycle trails nearby. Cycle to Bideford or along the Bude canal or set out for the famous Camel Trail at Wadebridge for a great ride to Padstow
Golf - There are several nearby courses, including the Bude and Ivyleaf golf courses
Horse Riding - no matter what your ability, our friendly local stables will ensure you have a fantastic day in the saddle
Wildlife and Bird Watching - from our resident snowy owl, 'Hedwig' to the hawks, buzzards and peregrine falcons who swoop around the eaves to the roe deer, dormice and foxes who appear in the dusk, Houndapitt is a great place to see some wildlife
Photography - we are perfectly placed for setting up your equipment and capturing some amazing images; the land, sea and skies are constantly changing and the quality of the light is excellent
Sailing - we are 3 miles from Tamar Lakes where you will find a sailing school
Extreme sports - Cornwall is the home of all sorts of adventures; climbing, abseiling, coasteering, kite surfing and more are all available locally

Getting Here

We are 4 miles from Bude in North Cornwall. It is easy to find us from the A39 'Atlantic Highway'. Take the turning signposted to Sandyouth Bay and Stibb. Continue along this road until you have passed though the hamlet of Stibb. Follow the road signposted to Sandymouth Bay - Houndapit cottages is on the right hand side and is signposted at the top of the lane. To see our location displayed on google maps click here.

When taking the the M5 motorway, leave at junction 27 (Tiverton exit) follow the signs to Barnstaple, then continue towards Bideford and Bude. 4 miles before Bude you will reach the village of Kilkhampton, carry on through the village for ½ a mile (descending a hill) turn Right at the signpost to Sandymouth. Continue through the small hamlet of Stibb, after another ½ mile turn left again to Sandymouth Beach. We are just down this road on the Right.

Alternatively, you can also leave the M5 at Exeter and then take the A30 towards Okehampton. Past Okehampton follow the slip road signposted to Bude and then follow signs for the A3072. Then turn right at the Stratton A39 T-junction before turning left a further 100 metes down the road. Follow this road past the crossroads before turning left at the T-junction in the hamlet of Stibb. After another ½ mile turn left again to Sandymouth Beach. We are just down this road on the Right.
