Description of Wishing Well CottageWishing Well Cottage is built of regional stone, it was once the village store, café and bar. This pretty cottage now comprises a fully equipped kitchen and breakfast area with wood-burner; a lounge with open fire, formal dining facilities for 8 and french doors opening into the private garden; 3 bedrooms - bedroom one with queen bed and single bed, bedroom two with queen bed and single bed, and bedroom three with two singles. Ground floor bathroom facilities.There is a garden for your exclusive use, together with the use of the pretty communal gardens and outdoor furniture. You also have the use of laundry facilities on site (laundry products included in the rental). Dishwasher to be installed in the property for 2014 season. Local InformationAulnayVillemorin is situated 5km from the market town of Aulnay-de-Saintonge, where all amenities are available: supermarkets, bakeries, banks, pharmacies, post office, garages, bars and restaurants. There is a large market on Sunday mornings, and a smaller produce market on Thursday mornings, in the town square. The open air swimming pool with games area and café is open throughout July and August, with the tennis courts open all year. The town is on the Santiago de Compostela route for pilgrims and the Romanesque church of St-Pierre d’Aulnay boasts impressive columns and is listed as a UNESCO Heritage site. Néré To the east of Villemorin is the little town of Néré only 6km away with supermarket, bakeries, bank, pharmacy and a welcoming anglo-french bar and bistro – Bar St Pierre! St Jean D'Angely Only 20 minutes drive away is St Jean d’Angèly, perfect for discovering the local heritage and magnificent architecture of the area. Built on the banks of the Boutonne River, this large market town boasts a beautiful lake and leisure area for water sports and lakeside activities. Nearby is the impressive swimming centre – Atlantys – with water slides, diving pool, jacuzzis, gym, sauna and sun terraces. In and around the town are all amenities including major supermarkets and a good selection of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes. La Rochelle Be sure to visit the old harbour of la Rochelle with its protective towers at the entrance (they used to string metal chain between the two to keep out invaders). Pass through the well preserved walls into the old town. Take a boat trip to the Île d'Aix and Fort Boyard. Enjoy a visit to the spectacular aquarium. (1 hour 15 mins) Rochefort Rochefort is a fascinating naval town. Make sure to visit the historic Arsenal and dockyard, where the replica of the frigate Hermione used by Lafayellte in the civil war is now complete, and is undertaking sea trials in 2014 before heading for the USA next year (59 minutes) Cognac Explore the historic town of Cognac on the banks of the Charente river, visit the Cognac houses and learn how the famous brandy is made (51 minutes) Saintes An ancient galo-roman town, Saintes offers lots to explore, particularly in the old town. Make sure you visit the ampitheatre (49 minutes) Poitiers Visit the well preserved centre of Poitiers. Explore the many shops and cafes in the safe pedestianised streets, and view the Romanesque churches (1 hour 20 minutes). Futuroscope Don't fail to spend a day at Futuroscope, a technology based theme park with IMAX, 4D and 3D cinemas, plus plenty of attractions for all the family. If you have the stamina, stay until the very end for the free evening show - lots of lasers, fountains, music and fireworks! Very French - very 'son et lumiere'! (1 hour 20 minutes - Futureoscope is about 20 minutes from Poitiers) La Palmyre Zoo The best zoo in Europe. Buy a bag of popcorn and feed the giraffes! (1 hour 20 minutes) Chateau de Dampierre sur Boutonne This nearby beautiful 15th century moated chateau is well worth a visit - open afternoons from May to September, and from 10:30 in July and August. Also see the Poitou Donkeys at the l'Asinerie du Baudet du Poitou (17 minutes) Chateau de la Roche Courbon The largest chateau in the Charente -Maritime.
